Celebrating Marge Piercy: A Life in Words

Her novels. Her poetry. Her fearless voice. Her enduring legacy.

A special literary celebration exploring the life, work, and lasting influence of one of America's most important feminist writers—and the publication of her remarkable new memoir, The Hour of My Death. Presented by Sands Hall and Kim Culbertson

A Life Dedicated to Words, Ideas, and Change

Novelist. Poet. Feminist. Activist. Visionary.

For more than five decades, Marge Piercy has written with extraordinary honesty, imagination, and conviction about women's lives, relationships, power, politics, and the possibilities of a different world.

From her groundbreaking feminist novel Woman on the Edge of Time to the award-winning science fiction of He, She and It, the sweeping historical storytelling of Gone to Soldiers, and her beloved poetry, Piercy's writing crosses genres and generations. Her work has given voice to experiences too often overlooked, challenged the status quo, and helped shape feminist literature.

Now, at ninety, she offers an extraordinary reflection on life, mortality, creativity, and what it means to leave a legacy.

"Sunday, October 23, 2022, I died."

With those startling words, Marge Piercy opens The Hour of My Death: A Journal of the Year After I Died, her newest memoir from Sibylline Press.

After a medical emergency in which she died and was resuscitated, Piercy began documenting the year that followed. Written in the Japanese literary form known as zuihitsu, the memoir weaves together personal reflections, poetry, short essays, observations, and even recipes to create an intimate portrait of a remarkable mind still passionately engaged with life.

Piercy considers this deeply personal work her legacy.

Registration includes a digital (epub) edition of Marge Piercy's newly published memoir, The Hour of My Death.
