From Book to Screen: Writing the Cinematic Story

Learn to recognize the cinematic potential of your story, identify what makes it compelling on screen, and use screenwriting techniques to strengthen your storytelling.

Discover how to adapt your novel or memoir for film or television—and make your storytelling more cinematic with Jamie Leigh Lorente

Ideal for: Novelists, memoirists, and storytellers curious about adapting their work for film or television—or anyone who wants to create more vivid, dramatic, and emotionally engaging writing.

Discover the story within your story.

You've written a novel or memoir—or you're working on one. But could it become a film or television series? And what would it take to transform the story you've written into one an audience can watch?

Adapting a book for the screen involves much more than shortening a manuscript or turning prose into dialogue. It means discovering the cinematic story within your work: its emotional heart, central conflict, defining moments, and visual possibilities.

In this accessible, practical webinar, author and screenwriter Jamie Leigh Lorente will introduce you to the essential elements of cinematic storytelling and show you how to begin looking at your own work through a screenwriter's lens.

You'll explore how to identify the dramatic core of your story, recognize the turning points that drive it forward, and begin organizing those moments into a simple beat sheet—a foundational tool for screenwriters.

You'll also discover five elements that give a story cinematic power, from visual storytelling and emotional stakes to scene-driven narratives, dramatic progression, and subtext.

And here's the bonus: These aren't just techniques for Hollywood. Learning to think cinematically can make your novel or memoir more vivid, compelling, and emotionally resonant—even if you never write a screenplay.

Whether you're hoping to see your book on screen someday or simply want to strengthen the one you're writing, this webinar offers a fresh perspective on what's possible.
